Tips on changes to make to your daily skincare routine for Fall and Winter months

As we transition into cooler months, you’ll notice more than just the leaves and temperatures changing. Cooler weather has started to set in and with it, you may notice your skin feeling a bit different. As Allure notes, a drop in humidity causes a drier atmosphere. This dry air combined with dry heat from indoor radiators may increase the chance of dry skin, flakiness, itching, and inflammatory conditions like breakouts and eczema.

When we think of Winter activities, we imagine enjoying the snow or sledding with our kids and families. Some of the best experiences to have in the cooler months require exposing our skin to harsh elements. InStyle Magazine reminds us that “Our skin is our first and most important barrier between our bodies and the outside world.”

At AVYA, we strive to create products that increase your skin’s resilience and radiance. We combine medical-grade actives with ancient ayurvedic botanicals to bring you balanced skincare that leaves your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Learning how to take care of your skin is an important part of maintaining the balance of your mind, body, and spirit, so we wanted to share a few tips with you on how to adjust your summer skincare routine to keep glowing well into the Winter months.

Improve your daily Fall and Winter cleansing routine

There are several ways to improve your daily cleansing routine as the seasons change. While many people like to cleanse and exfoliate afterwards, it's important to minimize the use of exfoliants like glycolic acid or manual exfoliants which can irritate skin and result in even more dryness and inflammation. During the colder months try switching to a more mild cleanser and exfoliate only once or twice per week. AVYA’s Gentle Cleanser is formulated with our signature blend of Peony, Neem, and Turmeric, ancient ayurvedic botanicals that have been used for centuries to heal and nourish skin deeply. These botanicals have antibacterial properties and are known to calm inflamed skin and aid in moisture retention. You should also avoid washing your face with hot water as this increases dryness.

Winter skincare routine should focus on moisture retention.

Your Fall and Winter skincare routine should focus on moisture retention.

Retaining moisture is the number one priority during Winter months when dry air wicks away moisture. Incorporating thicker moisturizers into your daily routine is key to ensure that moisture is locked in. Consistency in applying a great moisturizer in the morning and using one specifically formulated to lock in moisture and repair skin overnight is also a great idea. AVYA’s Night Moisturizer is formulated with Vitamin A to help repair dry damaged skin.

You can also layer on a serum for additional moisture. Choosing a serum that contains moisturizing ingredients is desirable during these colder months. We’ve packed our Anti-Aging Power Serum with our signature blend of botanicals along with antioxidants and Vitamins A and C to increase moisture retention and combat free radicals that lead to signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.

While we focus a great deal on keeping our faces smooth and hydrated, it's important to incorporate thicker body moisturizers as well. You may also want to take warm showers as opposed to very hot ones that can feel so great after coming inside from the cold. According to healthline, very hot showers can disrupt your skin cells’ ability to lock in moisture. Lukewarm showers followed by a good moisturizer are your best option. Other treatments for areas that are more likely to be exposed to the elements, like our hands, is also a good idea. AVYA’s Nourishing Hand Treatment with Stem Cell Technology is soothing and protects even the driest, chapped hands.
