Learn how to keep your skin glowing and protected all summer long
With each seasonal change comes the need to adjust your skin care routine due to different humidity levels and exposure to different elements. We wanted to share some important points to keep in mind during your daily skincare ritual this summer.
Sun Protection is the most important part of your daily routine
No matter what month of the year it is, using SPF to complete your skincare routine is a must. Warmer weather usually increases the time we spend outdoors and our exposure to harmful UVA & UVB rays.
One of the most common questions people have is “What level sunscreen should I use?” Dermatologists agree that at minimum, you should use a level 30 SPF broad-spectrum sunscreen or higher which blocks about 97 percent of UVB rays. You should also reapply your sunscreen at least every two hours especially if you’ve been sweating or swimming.
Keeping skin moisturized is especially important in your summertime daily face routine
Keeping your skin moisturized is always important. With higher levels of humidity during the summer months using a lightweight moisturizer is important for both your daytime and nighttime face routines.
Be sure to cleanse daily and exfoliate at least twice per week during summer months
Dermatologists have different opinions on how much cleansing is healthy for skin, however most agree that it's necessary to cleanse at least once a day. We tend to sweat more during warmer months, so finding the right cleanser to gently remove dirt, sweat and other impurities is important to keep skin healthy and clear. Trying a cleanser like our Daily Essentials Soothing Milk Cleanser is great for making sure skin stays hydrated and balanced even after cleansing.
Exfoliating is especially important during summer months to help with cell-turnover and removing dead skin cells that, when mixed with sweat, can clog pores. Be sure to exfoliate at least twice per week.
Develop a consistent nighttime routine to prevent premature aging
No matter what age you are, taking care of your skin is absolutely crucial to prevent premature signs of aging. Collagen and elastin depletion begin as early as the early 20’s in most women, so making sure you use products that contain essential vitamins and minerals is important.
Along with great ingredients, developing a night time skin care routine whose ingredients have restorative properties is essential to maintaining healthy skin. Try serums that contain Vitamin C to help boost collagen and reduce hyperpigmentation. Use products that contain retinol, like our Night Moisturizer to regenerate new skin cells and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
